Network of Agricultural
Communicators (NAC) –The Gambia was
established in 2009 under the name of The Agricultural Voice. In the beginning
of 2012 it changed its name to Network
of Agricultural Communicators (NAC) –The Gambia. This is to allow non-practising journalists such as communicators in the wide
range of agriculture to become members.
Statutes mission statement reads: "The purpose of the Network shall be to serve
agricultural writers, photographers and communicators who both work on print
and electronic and are qualify for active membership by ensuring an open
exchange of ideas and fostering professional excellence both in The Gambia and
internationally."
The members are journalists at newspapers and radios and professional papers as
well as communication officers from organizations, institutions and authorities
from agricultural agencies or industries. The members are permanent employees,
freelancers and a few retirees as well as students.
The number of members in recent years has fluctuated between 25 and 40 and is
currently increasing to almost 60 or less.
The primary activities of the network are organizing in house trainings,
workshops where we share information and discuss issues on professional topics
as well as company visits and visits to farming communities and host radio talk
shows on agricultural matters to help guide farmers on how to manage their
farms etc.
